Skyline Project

Well my latest project, i say latest i have had it about 1 and a half years now, is a Series 1 ECR33 Nissan Skyline.  I will use this page to keep an update of what i have done to it and when i add more stuff to the car i will update this page.  Also there’s a link to what a ECR33 Skyline is and there history.  To find out more click here.

So it all starts here, a year and a half ago after blowing my Impreza up i decided the Subaru had to go and i had to go and i had to find a likely Jap candidate to replace her.  My Impreza was clean, a 2 week old spray job and a rebuilt engine.  Replacing it would be hard but a gentleman down south offered me a straight swap for what would become my white beast.

I drove the Impreza down south met in a lay-by and exchanged keys, i watched what had been my car for a few years drive away as i stood next to my new skyline.  Yes its a skyline but i had had some great fun in my Impreza, my little boy had grown in that car every family pic had the car in it.  So i was gutted…

The skyline was a little scabby but i ain’t scared of a little work so off on our weekend break i drove, instantly within 3 miles understanding why they use Skylines as drift cars and smiling like a fat kid at an all you can eat buffet.

Here’s the beast on the day, stock and scabby

Day one

Day one stock and scabby but with potential

I knew straight away i had to clean up the marks round the body shell and colour code the parts that weren’t already done.  Although this is a type M as with most imports parts were missing, in this case the skirts and because its an S1 it had a horrid low level spoiler.  After the weekend i drove it home and as soon i i  parked up bits came off.  The Nismo grill was colour coded and i shot round the car with a low pressure gun.  Heres the next stage
Colour matched up and looking more like a skyline

However it was still only a Type M front end and i was smitten by the GTR look.  However first things first and a deal i couldnt pass up presented itself a day later.  Some split rims that were a staggered fitment were offered at £100.  I mean it would be rude to pass up so off i shot to Blackpool to get them.  At least it was starting to grip
mmmm dishy

After this i thought right i need to sort the body shape out so i set about skirts and a series 2 mid spoiler.  Also i started looking at engine mods, ECU’s, induction kits controllers the list goes on and on. I got a spoiler, skirts, and various other bits.  I’ll add a few pics to explain the transformation.

The transformations came thick and fast at this point, a stage 2 spoiler then rapidly a GTR spoiler, GTR side skirts, GTR front end.  Internally the Mapped ECU was changed for a Mines unit, An Apexi SAFC, Boost controller, Apexi Induction kit, HKS downpipe, Kakimoto Exhaust, Various in car entertainment, Defi instrumentation brake upgrades etc etc.
So hows it look now, well latest buy has been some URAS NS-01′s and some nice fat drifty tyres, now it really grips.  And the next parts, which i have now, are a full driftworks HICAS removal kit and alloy/poly bushes.

Here’s the look now

So whats the next steps, well the hardest part of all this saga is that GTR’s are so cheap now so you have to question throwing money at a GTS. However i dont think i could bring myself to sell/break this car.  I think i would probably get a GTR and use the GTS as a run about.  Want to find out what happens next………… watch this space i suppose.
This last year has had many ups and downs and its taken longer than i wanted to transform the Skyline but im starting to think Nissan 240 aswell……. mmmmm
Latest updates consist of changing most the hoses on the RB lump and adding aload of Abbey motorsport bits.  Also i have added aload of driftworks stuff, some pics i hear you say
