Where do i start…..

Back in the day i started work at Business Serve Plc as a means to kick start my exposure to the Internet as an industry.  I worked there for many years working with many people from all walks of the industry.  During this time i made many friends and learnt many things about the technologies and work practices.  This enabled me to grow as a person both technically and in communication with others.  As staff at Business Serve Plc i was offered free hosting and a domain name.  This is where our story starts online…….

Kiddas.co.uk was born taking many shapes and uses, firstly it was a hobby site experimenting with various technologies (Perl, PHP, ASP, Frontpage, HTML and XHTML).  At first it was a crude collection of Perl scripts used to aid Business Serve’s customer support teams in network diagnostics.  After pressure this was torn down and a basic Perl forum took its place.  This served no purpose really just a testing ground…

Kiddas.co.uk spawns rogue child site kiddas.sytes.net, kiddas.co.uk evolved into a file upload site using a spare NT based node that i had for development.  This lost the beaten track and ended up being a File sharing platform (and like most was abused for file sharing MP3′s).  The systems were pulled down cleaned up as they were showing a hacking persona, which of course i would never support, and the ASP version was born as a full portal.

Kiddas.co.uk becomes gaming portal and internet security forum… After being online for a while the site became an open discussion for gaming and internet security and known vulnerabilities on server platforms.  My development skills were advancing helping port my early Visual Basic skills towards Active Server Pages (ASP) and brushing up on my SQL and JET database development when a crashing blow was dealt by my former employer Business Serve plc….. our team was redundant and i was on my way out the door.  After a great deal of soul searching i felt rejoining the Customer Services track was a regression and i was pushing forward with my career, i left Business Serve plc to Join CHC internet (a small one man company in Manchester) continuing my developement and technical progression.

Kiddas.co.uk dies! After leaving Business Serve plc the release of Kiddas.co.uk was not forthcoming.  Even though Businessserve.com was offered (the name we caught and offered free of charge) they would still not release the name.  So Kiddas.com was registered on my behalf and Kiddas.co.uk was left to drop which was snatched up by a douchbag cybersquater for its value on the large amount of traffic it generated……….scumbag!

Kiddas.com lives!  so it started, as a forum, for rock music but as i didnt have the time it died a death… this then became a forum for my other passion…..cars!  I followed build progresses of my projects on the site and played about with PHPBB until one day on another local site, GTI Lancaster, i was talking to another member that said he would help run it.  Further discussions on another site Lancashirecruise.com lead me towards yest another cruise site where i met the other people that would become my admin team.  The site renamed to Extrememodifiers.com and started its life as a cruise site.  Lancashire cruise member and admin Coully started Westcoastcruise.co.uk (WCC) and soon after the technical base of Extrememodifiers.com and WCC merged to become WCC V2.

WCC (Westcoastcruise) after Coully left WCC the name was sat idle and after a VB Script i wrote to protect domain names got excited and renewed WCC for a few years, when i didnt want it, i kick started WCC again.  With new interest and new staff, Trunkmonkey (Paul Zanelli), Scoobywill (Will Little) & Civicamy (Amy Owens), WCC grew… i still didnt have the time but the others did and they pushed it forward… right until i decided it was time to step away from WCC and allow a new owner to take the reins… Will bought the site for the domain costs and now owns and runs WCC, which is now NorthernStreetCars, yes i remained an admin and always will but this is now Will’s turn.  Kiddas.com was put back on its own hosting and i continued to use email.

Kiddas.com now!….. i use it for mail, so does my family these days.  What was my little girl when it started 9 years ago is now 11 and uses Kiddas.com for her email with friends.  Maybe one day my little boy Kian will, maybe in 5 years or so.  The domain Kiddas has been in our family so long and its had so much use….. not bad for a name i remember my brother calling me when i was little ‘our kidda’

Many know me as kidda from the forums i have participated on, and this is kidda’s site by contrast.  To myself its a small piece of my history and development over the years.   To my family a domain that is safe for email use…… to my friends and followers of the site its a bit of fun and a place to store my minds rubbish!
